Sleep was a rarity these days - taken away as a punishment for all his sins. However, when it did come it was tainted with blackened nightmares of death and destruction. The same scene would play over and over in his sleep: There stood Kade, tall and wise. The senior zeta didn't deserve any pain for what had he done to deserve it? Kade had always been a loyal member; the mother earth shouldn't have soaked up his blood. But that's exactly what happened. Now, Kade was rotting underground all thanks to Shade. They say death is the worst punishment. Shade chuckled, fuck that. What's worse than the weight that drags your paws done everyday, the weight of knowing than an innocent life was snatched away by your merciless jaws? No, sometimes to live is worse than to die. Shade was alone now; he had nowhere to go.
It was funny to think that Shade had been completely innocent and sane before that day happened. In battles he had always let the enemy flee, he had always been there to help the sick and wounded, he had been a teacher to the young. Shade possessed a sharp tongue but his bark had always been worse than his bite. There is something cold about a beautiful winter’s morning. The empty cloudless sky gapes at the frozen world below, beautiful but lethal. Similarly behind an enchanting mask could live a devil in disguise.
Then he thought of Poltergeist. Fucking bitch. She led him only only to vanish into thin air, to melt into the shadows. He should have known; he should have kept his hopes low. If you keep your expectations low then you can never be disappointed. What good is getting your hopes up just to be left feeling disappointed? On the other hand if your hopes remain low and something great was to happen then you'd be left feeling over the moon. Hope is a curse. To all those that say hope is a survival technique, Shade thought, what a load of fucking bullshit. Hope is a disease, something to stay away from at all costs for if you have hope then you aren't able to let go. Hope brainwashes you until you don't know who you are anymore. Hope makes you kid yourself and live a fantasy until you can no longer distinguish reality from all that bullshit you tried to make yourself believe and stick a fucking label on it calling it 'hope'. Hope keeps you awake at night, thinking about what could happen in the future. You play a fantastic play inside your head, perfectly scripted and anything, telling yourself that this could one day come true. However, it never does and that's when you get a big slap in the face and start drowning in self-pity, wondering why life didn't turn out the way you wanted it to. That's when you have to wake the hell up and realise how hope is nothing more than a curse, a lie. It's like a bedtime story, there to make you feel happy and safe. But who are you fucking kidding?
Shade heaved a sigh as he trod on the wasteland. The plain of fucking memories. Well none of those memories were his to think about. Why should he feel any fucking remorse? He was made of stone. His eyes were nothing but marble. This was the edge of Yusten's territory; it wasn't theirs so they didn't have any right to kick him out. If they challenged him then he wouldn't hesitate to stand up for himself. For a brief moment he wondered what had become of Yusten. Were they okay? How did they take his banishment? What the fuck did he care? He wasn't one of them anymore.

The grass was crisp beneath her feet but she did not mind. Her mind was elsewhere. In the distance she could smell others and she was trying her best to keep herself hidden. She was growing tired of hiding; all she wanted was her own little land to hunker down on for a few weeks. She had been on the move for years, ever since she had escaped forever from her little fenced in territory. She was too tame to be accepted into a pack, at least that was how she felt, but she was certainly too wild to live as a pet ever again.
She sniffed the air carefully again. She could probably fight one other wolf but there wouldn’t just be one. There was no place to hide here either, so running was out of the question. She couldn’t smell anyone but she knew the wind was not in her favor. Though her eyes were not nearly as good as her nose she could still see if there was any problems.
It only took a few seconds before the chocolate fae spotted a dark male in the distance. She hesitated, uncertain as to whether it would be best for her to approach him or hide the best she could. She froze for a few moments as she debated about what to do. Carefully she scented the air, looking for an info on this wolf.

The wind carried a nearby scent to the brute's nostrils. So there was a wolf about, eh? This strange odor was coming from the other side of the border. No trespasser in Yusten then, he figured. But then again, why should he care? He was a trespasser himself so if this wolf was a loner like himself, neither would be in the wrong or the right. Maybe a conflict was avoidable this time; however, if they were to lash their tongue at the young male, he wouldn't hesitate to take action.
Then he spotted her. A lithe fea with a cinnamon coloured pelt stood on the horizon, her eyes burning into his coat. It looked like a stand off; two wolves that had never seen each other in their lives, standing across the plains at one another. Shade didn't flinch or feel uncomfortable under her gaze; he had turned into a rather detached character who couldn't give a fuck what others thought of him. He knew others looked down upon him for the decisions which he made but he couldn't give a shit. How he lived his life was no one's concern - only his.
It was then when Shade calculated his next move. He could move on and pretend it never happened or he could step forward and confront the female. For a male that had been deprived of social interaction for a while, the decision was all too easy. Eloquently, he began to weave through the long green stems. With stern eyes, he caught her frame and didn't let go of it; she was trapped within his irises. Would she flee or would she face him? Well, he was about to fight out.

Laika’s golden eyes locked with the black male’s emerald orbs for only a moment before he began to approach her. The chocolate female gave a low chuff and bristled as she sized him up. It was not a threat though, her chuff was only half hearted and her hackles were only just raised off her back. The odds didn’t favor her winning this fight so she hoped only to exchange a few harsh words and be sent on her way.
The little fae couldn’t help but give him an approving grin. He was handsome, that wouldn’t change whether or not he meant to harm her. If it came to blows she would make sure that that was changed. In her vicious little mind she made sure she would go for those green eyes.
”What do you want?” Laika chuffed when the male was in earshot. ”I’ve checked the land, I’m not trespassing,” she lied as she tried to discretely scent the air to see if she was on some one’s land. She paused for a moment then added in, ”If I’m too close to somewhere you don’t have to worry your pretty little head. I’m just passing through and don’t mean no harm.”

Shade narrowed his eyes, sensing her fur ruffling in discomfort. It didn't come as any surprise that the female was startled for if Shade gave a fuck about his well being, he probably would be too. What's more, Shade felt comfortable being so close to a territory which he used to own, whereas this female was probably a long way from home. Her aggressive stance was what pissed him off. Yeah, he knew she had a right to be defensive but that didn't really matter to him. He lost all his morals the day Ebony turned him away.
Shade straightened up and stood still in his tracks. He didn't want to seem threatening but if she challenged him, he would retaliate as it was in his nature and he wasn't going to change himself for anyone. "A frown like that masks the beauty of that delicate face, my dear." He began in a calm, slow tone. His voice was smooth, deep and unpredictable. It was one that appeared warm at first but first impressions are often deceiving. His sentence ended as a smile painted itself upon his maw. It was a cheeky smile - one that you couldn't quite figure out. His long black tail swung slowly against his muscular back legs, much like a pendulum. His round blue eyes stared into hers, searching for a reaction. He did not blink or shift his pupils as he wondered how she might react.

A frown like that masks the beauty of that delicate face, my dear.
The male spoke in a relaxed manner. He now stood tall in front of the little cinnamon colored female; he did not seem to be afraid, only alert. She couldn’t blame him there, with her growling like a mad woman. Seeing as how he made not threatening movements against her she relaxed and straightened a touch. She kept a careful eye on his though.
”I ain’t your dear,” she snarled in annoyance, ”So don’t you go callin’ me that.” She could tell her accent had come through much stronger than she had meant it too but that was just the sort of thing that happens when a strange approaches you and treats you like an idiot, she told herself.
Her lava colored eyes looked over the male in a careful glance. His tail swung back and forth as if he was pleased with something and the stupid grin on his face made her certain he was. She met his gaze and felt it did not match, his eyes were cold and not because they were blue. She held his gaze as she spoke.
”Just what do you want from me?” she asked irritable. ”I ain’t in pup season yet and I ain’t willin’ to join any pack of yours, if you even have one.” She cocked her head a bit as she spoke as if she really cared just what the male had to say.

This female had a sharp tongue and of course she was having none of what Shade was saying. Was this because she was fearful? Whatever the reason, she seemed to posses a hot head and one that could get her into trouble one day. With a flicker of his ears Shade wondered if that day was today. No, he was not a killer, even if others said he was. He wouldn't make a habit out of dirty deeds. "Keep your fur on, love." Shade chuckled, cheekily. She wasn't taking a liking to pet names; she'd already spat about the fact he'd called her 'my dear' and now he was calling her 'love', purely because he enjoyed how pissed off she was getting. "I'm as welcome here as you are."
Taking a side-ways glance over his shoulder, his eyes narrowed and he raised his tale. "A pack lives not far from here so I'd watch your step if I was you; they don't have a reputation for being a welcoming bunch." His words had truth in it. In the past Yusten used to be feared; their alpha Shadow was fantastic at slaughtering anyone who sauntered into her lands. This reputation hadn't exactly faded over time anyway; countless members were known for having a taste for wolf blood.
"You seem like the type who doesn't like to get her paws dirty. You have a sharp tongue but I reckon that's it, princess. I suggest maybe leaving this place if you want to save your ass from getting muddy." Call it being nice if you will, Shade knew things were bad here. If she wasn't looking for a pack then what was she looking for? Whatever it was, she wouldn't find it here in this wasteland.

Laikia bristled when he called her love but kept her mouth shut. She didn’t need to scrap over something so pointless. Besides, she thought to herself, he was probably doing it to get her goat. He quickly turned the conversation around though, much to her delight.
The black pelted male told her of a pack that was not far off. According to him they were not a welcoming bunch but that didn’t mean much to her. ”I ain’t goin’ that way so I don’t much care what goes on that way. Ain’t none of my business what that pack does to trespassers unless I am a trespasser.” Perhaps it was a bit harsh to say to him, since he was probably trying to be friendly, but she didn’t care. After all he had the audacity to call her love and dear.
The male spoke again. Once again he said all the wrong things. She could fight if she wanted to; she wasn’t just a sharp tongue, at least if you asked her. The brown she-devil knew she wasn’t the best fighter but she had too much pride to admit it to others. She knew he might have been trying to be kind and he was just a gruff sole, but to the little female that didn’t mean much.
”Don’t you go wagging your tongue about what I should and shouldn’t do. You ain’t my mama so you have no right to talk to me like you are. I’ll go or not go where I damn well please. Ain’t nothing you can do to make me move. What reason do you have to bother with my safety anyway?”

Like the male had expected, the female was not happy. He could see in her eyes that she was having great difficulty restraining her anger. Was it bad to say that he liked it? Oh when did the male grow so cold? When did his heart turn to steel and his blood turn to iron? I guess he was a product, sculpted by those around him: Poltergeist, Ebony, Kade, Cooper, all contributors to this monster screaming inside the body of a young male wolf. There was nothing left now; the light had faded from the black hole that swirled where his heart once was.
The female's words were like the hiss of a serpent; they did no good to him. Maybe it was because she was a female - bold and full of life. But females were all the same in his eyes; they were nothing but leeches on this earth to do one thing - suck the life out of you. There was nothing more to their words than lie upon lie, each used to wipe that knife of betrayal before it is plunged into yet another delicate heart. Females were all the same; why would this one be any different?
"It would be a shame to see your ears get torn off. Is that enough of a reason?" Shade was temped to roll his eyes as he spoke but he didn't want to let off that he was an irritated, restless soul. Sighing, Shade lashed his tail about in irritation. "What are you doing here anyway?" As moody as this female was, this was the first interaction he'd had for days and it's not like he had anything better to do.
