Wolves have always been creatures that were highly sought-after. Their fur is beautiful, their songs are lovely, and just the mere sight of them is awe-inspiring. Humans have wanted to tame them and make them their own since the dawn of the century. There was always a strong belief that coming into contact with a Wolf would bring good fortune and prosperity in all aspects of a person's life.
Being so, a few hunters were selected to collect a small pack of wolves called the "Samples." These canines were given to scientists to create a breed of tamed wolves that humans could own for a large sum of money. Nothing good came of these experiments. Fluids were injected into the wolves to try and domesticate the pack, but it only had reverse affects. The "Samples" would turn and kill all of those around them in a bloody fury and without remorse. Hours later though, the injections would wear off and things would go back to normal. Humans no longer wanted anything to do with these beastly creatures though.
Something had to be done, so those wolves were taken and put into a isolated territory. The humans hoped that they would just die off, even though it was their idea in the first place to try to mess with the wolves. To make sure, an abundance of planes were flown over the territory, and a green, mist-like poison was spread all over the lands in mass amounts. Many less hardy animals died quickly. The wolves were mostly able to survive, but things began to happen at a frightful pace.
Some wolves were lucky enough to make it to the northern lands and remain the same without any defects. Those that could not escape were covered in the poison, and started to have reactions. Horrible reactions. Some grew bigger, others got severely burned, and all sorts of mutations began to happen. When the normal group of wolves returned to the destroyed lands, they surprised at what they saw. Members of their family had become monsters. They were ugly, contorted, and disgusting. No one wanted to be around them, and just one glance at them was petrifying.
Immediately, those wolves that changed were ousted from the pack that once was so cohesive. The outcasts were called the "Dire" wolves and forced to live in the poisonous territory. The normal Timber wolves retreated to the lands from whence they came. As expected, the Dire wolves weren't too pleased with this. How could their family just turn on them so quickly? It wasn't their fault that they had been morphed into something else. The Dire wolves wanted to prove to their family that they are still good. They wanted to earn back their places in the pack. Many attempts at this were tried, and nothing changed.
One wolf, named Toxin, decided to seek revenge for being cast out of the pack that he once loved. He is leading a rebellion because he feels that if he isn't accepted into his old pack, this new one will dominate it. The Dire Wolves aren't going to stop until all of the "normal" Wolves' lives all over.
So begins DireStraits.
